There always seems to be that driver who runs red lights or drives at high speeds with no concern for other drivers. These drivers are dangerous, and they’re responsible for many car crashes in Florida.
You can take steps to avoid falling victim to one of these drivers. By driving defensively and being aware of your immediate surroundings, you can lower your risk of being struck by one a reckless driver. The following are a few examples:
- Use your mirrors. Most vehicles have three mirrors. Use yours. By scanning from mirror to mirror, you will have a good idea of where other drivers are around you and how they are operating their vehicle.
- Know what’s ahead of you.Be aware of what’s up ahead. A good rule of thumb is to be aware of what is happening 20 to 30 seconds ahead of you.
- Look everywhere. Some drivers tend to stare straight ahead in the same spot, but it’s best to keep your eyes constantly moving. Scan between your mirrors and the road so that you’re aware of anything out of the norm. Also, keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists.
