Treatment Options for a Herniated Disk as Result of Auto Accident

Auto Accident victims frequently suffer disk herniations in their neck and back as a result of the impact and force of an auto accident. In fact, in my practice as an Auto Accident attorney in Orlando and Central Florida, I would say the single most common injury I see and encounter is a disk herniation in the spine.

Herniated Disks can cause a variety of symptoms, from just nagging and irritating pain, to complete disability and numbness of extremities. Like all injuries, early diagnosis and treatment is critical. As documented in the article I linked here, as well as several other articles, there are many non-surgical and surgical treatment options for the victims of herniated disks. The standard of care followed by orthopedic surgeons is to have the disk injury victims referred out for conservative care and treatment, usually with a chiropractor or physical therapist, for a period of approximately 4-6 weeks. After that time, accident victims will typically undergo an MRI, to reveal and/or confirm any structural damage to disk. Following the same, if pain complaints or if any numbness in extremities (hands with the neck, butt or legs with the back) are present, injection therapy and/or surgical options are considered.

As always, if you are suffered from a herniated disk as a result of a car accident, you should consult an attorney who has experience handling such cases and can give you an assessment on the value of the same, including the projected medical costs of the treatments above, and a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of such injuries.

Knowledge Equals Power in Orlando Auto Accident Cases

By the way, if your back or neck pain is persisting beyond the 4-6 window of initial care, there is a strong possibility of a herniated disk, and you should seek care for the same.
