Florida Car Accidents’ Most Common Causes

It is very common to see an auto accident while driving along the roadways in Florida. In fact, more than 230,000 car crashes occur in Florida each year, resulting in more than 195,000 injuries. These statistics demonstrate that the odds of being involved in a car accident or injured in an automobile wreck in Florida are very high.

There are many types of wrecks with many different contributing factors. However, these can be broken down into common causes of crashes. The four most common causes of car wrecks in Kissimmee are:

  • Distracted drivers.Inattention to the road is responsible for up to half of all crashes. Many factors can lead to distracted driving, with texting, rubbernecking and diversions created by other passengers being the most common.
  • Driver fatigue. The second most common cause of car accidents in Florida is driver fatigue. Each year, more than 100,000 accidents in the United States are associated with driver fatigue. The risk of being involved in an accident caused by a fatigued driver is highest between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. Many drivers choose to drive even when they know they are tired.
  • Drunk driving.A study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed that an estimated 16,654 people were killed in 2004 as the result of alcohol-related accidents. The only way to prevent this type of accident is simply not to drink and drive.
  • Speeding.Driving at an excessive speed decreases the amount of time available to avoid a crash and increases the amount of damage done on impact.
