Orlando, FL – The Orlando-based Auto Justice Law Firm of Michael T. Gibson, P.A. had the privilege of hosting a breakfast in honor of the governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, before the town hall meeting in Kissimmee on Friday, January 12.
“There is still so much we can do to help welcome Puerto Ricans into the Central Florida community and aid with the ongoing recovery efforts on the island,” said the firm’s Managing Partner, Michael T. Gibson. “We would like to thank Pastor Raymond Diaz and his wife Nereida for opening up their church for this breakfast and chef Candelaria for preparing the food for this event.”The breakfast was held at Iglesia Ciudadanos del Reino de Dios, 1019 N. Main Street, Kissimmee, FL 34744. The governor spoke words of encouragement and discussed hopes for the future. There was also an update about the ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts and policy issues of the island of Puerto Rico.
Community leaders who were in attendance included: the Mayor of Orange County Teresa Jacobs, Mayor of Kissimmee Jose Alvarez, Mayor of St. Cloud Nathan Blackwell, and the President of Iniciativa Puerto Rico: Jimmy Torres, among others.
More than 150,000 Puerto Ricans, many with families in Central Florida, have come to the state since October. They face job, education, healthcare and housing issues, which will require an ongoing effort from federal, state, local government and volunteers. Some 28,000 evacuees from the island have been provided assistance from the disaster relief center at the Orlando International Airport.
The town hall meeting was held at the Kissimmee Civic Center, 201 E. Dakin Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon. The purpose of the meeting was to raise awareness of the importance of political involvement and working toward fairer treatment of Puerto Ricans.
