Airbags are one of the most standard safety features in cars today because of their ability to keep drivers and passengers safe in the event of a major collision. In April, four auto manufacturers recalled cars in their fleet because of airbag issues that could put drivers at risk in an Orlando accident.
The following are four of the cars recalled due to airbag concerns.
- Toyota –Toyota has recalled 510,000 cars including their Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia, Tundra, and Lexus SC 430 models. The airbag recall is only in effect for cars from the years 2001 – 2003.
- GM –The 2003 Pontiac Vibe is recalled for airbag issues. This car was made in the same factory as the Toyota vehicles.
- Honda –Honda is recalling the 2001 – 2003 Civic, the 2002 – 2003 CR-V, and the 2002 Odyssey. They are also recalling the 2001 – 2003 Maxima, Pathfinder, Sentra, Infiniti FX Crossover, and the Infiniti QX4.
- Mazda –Mazda has recalled their 2003 – 2004 Mazda6 and RX-8 models.
Each of these cars has something in common. They were built using the airbag vendor Takata from Auburn Hills, Michigan. These airbags have the potential to deploy prematurely, leaving drivers and passengers at serious risk.
Airbags have increased in popularity, and more manufacturers are racing to increase the number of airbags in their cars as a safety measure. Although these safety devices are highly beneficial in the event of an Orlando car crash, they can be the cause of a collision if they deploy and impair a driver’s ability to see or operate the vehicle.
