“Why I became a Lawyer”
– by Michael T. Gibson, Esq.
On December 14, 2000, my mother was hit head on by an elderly driver. She was fortunate to survive, but the accident left her with permanent RSD and nerve damage. She has been through two painful procedures, countless injections, and is still in physical therapy.
My mother was represented for this accident by a very competent and knowledgeable personal injury attorney. He not only obtained two settlements for my mother, he also listened to her needs and advocated her case with passion. When all hope was lost, he was there, fighting for her when it seemed no one else would. He took a hotly contested UM case to the courthouse steps and ultimately, obtained justice for my mother and family.
He inspired me, and made me believe that a lawyer can make a powerful difference in one’s life, and actually bring hope where there is none.
As a result of my mother’s accident, my grandmother, who had lived with me my whole life and helped to raise me, had to go into a nursing home. In late 2001, she suffered a fall in the bathroom at the nursing home. Over the course of the next 8 weeks, she would suffer several strokes, severe bedsores and a rapid decline. I watched my grandmother quickly wither away, weighing only 70 pounds when she died. I witnessed other patients at the nursing home, being ignored and basically left to die.
Based on these incidents, I wanted to do whatever I could to help people like my mother and grandmother. I wanted to help good, honest people who had fallen on hard times through no fault of their own – People who were ignored by those who signed a contract to protect them.
I knew that I had the talent, the ability, and the determination to fight for these people. I vowed to take these talents and take the fight for individuals like my mother and grandmother into Florida’s courtrooms. I wanted to be an equalizer, and to give people like my mother and grandmother a voice against the insurance companies and healthcare conglomerates that ignored them.
To fulfill this promise, I put myself through college and law school. My entire legal career and law practice has been devoted to representing injured people in disputes against car insurance companies, hospitals, and nursing homes. I do this because I see my mother and grandmother, at least a little, in every client I have the honor to represent. My experience in my family makes being a plaintiff’s civil trial lawyer extremely important to me and my family. I take great pride in who I represent and why. That is why I would be honored to have the opportunity to be your Orlando accident attorney.
